SIMI RECEIVES SAFETY AWARD.Byline: Daily News Recognizing the city's efforts to protect pedestrians, the Automobile Club of Southern California presented Simi Valley with a Pedestrian Safety Award of Merit, which is part of the American Automobile Association's 57th annual Pedestrian Protection Program. Larry Wright, manager of the Auto Club's Simi Valley district office, presented the award to Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton and Police Chief Randy Adams during Monday night's City Council meeting. The Outstanding Achievement Award for Superior Public Safety is given to states and cities for implementing effective pedestrian program activities. ``This program is an important tool in traffic crash prevention,'' Wright said. ``It evaluates a community's efforts to teach pedestrians about the dangers of walking near traffic, and it helps pedestrians learn important safety skills.'' Elements evaluated in the competition include quality of school traffic safety programs, low pedestrian death and injury rates, safety legislation, enforcement, traffic engineering The ability to guarantee performance in a network for a certain amount of capacity for a certain amount of time.
