 SILICON GRAPHICS PROMOTES TECHNOLOGIST THOMAS JERMOLUK
 TO CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
 MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics Inc. (NYSE: SGI) today announced the promotion of Thomas A. Jermoluk to chief operating officer, reporting directly to Edward R. McCracken, president and CEO. The promotion was named as the company finalizes its merger with MIPS Computer Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS), the source of the powerful R4000(R) RISC architecture that drives Silicon Graphics' 3D color workstations. Jermoluk will be in charge of developing and delivering the company's entire range of computing systems.
 "During Tom's six-year tenure at Silicon Graphics, he has been responsible for running a research and development program that has grown the company into the Fortune 500," said McCracken. "We look forward to Tom's broadening leadership as he serves the company in its new phase of growth."
 In his new position, Jermoluk will be responsible for the high- and low-end IRIS(R) workstation product groups, research and development, business development, administration, finance, business systems, operations, corporate manufacturing and marketing. Jermoluk joined Silicon Graphics in July 1986 as manager for the engineering department. He was promoted to vice president and general manager of the Advanced Systems Division in 1988 to lead development and design of the company's high-end graphics and multi-processor systems. With his promotion in July 1991 to executive vice president, Jermoluk added finance and administration to the list of functions that reported to him. Prior to joining Silicon Graphics, he was responsible for a variety of hardware and software projects at Hewlett-Packard Co. and Bell Laboratories. Jermoluk has a B.S. in computer science/electrical engineering and an M.S. in computer science from Virginia Tech.
