SIKORSKY INTRODUCES CIVIL S-92 FULL-SCALE MOCKUP
LAS VEGAS, Nev., March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Sikorsky Aircraft today

introduced a full-scale mockup of the S-92 medium civil helicopter it intends to market to worldwide commercial operators.
The advanced technology 19-passenger helicopter is designed to be less expensive to maintain and operate than other helicopters in its weight class. It will serve the needs of the offshore oil industry as well as overnight cargo service, aeromedical, and search and rescue operations. The S-92 also will make effective commuter services practical.
"Sikorsky is applying the knowledge and experience of proven Black Hawk and Seahawk helicopter technology to enhance operator profits. The growth S-92 is designed to reflect the importance of reliability, lower operating costs and reasonable purchase price cited by operators as absolutely essential to their business growth," Sikorsky President Eugene Buckley said.
"We know these universal elements are the keys to operator productivity and profit," Buckley said.
Sikorsky has produced more than 1,700 Hawk family aircraft. Black Hawk and Seahawk helicopters have logged more than 1.5 million flight hours in worldwide service.
An S-92 marketing study will be completed by December 1992. Product deliveries would be scheduled for late 1996.
Designed for safe, economical performance in offshore oil support missions in North Sea, Gulf of Mexico and tropical areas, the S-92 will offer rear cargo access and more cabin volume than the Black Hawk.
The S-92 incorporates proven Army Black Hawk and Navy Seahawk dynamic systems, including the transmission and drive train, an aluminum airframe with composites in selected areas and a highly integrated avionics package. It will have growth H-60 wide chord main rotor blades.
Maximum takeoff weight for the S-92 will be 22,220 lbs. Powered by twin jet turbines, it will have a maximum range of 400 nautical miles, a cruising speed of 160 knots, and a service ceiling of 15,000 feet.
Preliminary general characteristics for the S-92 include a cabin height and width of 6 feet, overall length of 66.17 feet with the rotors turning, and a fuselage length of 54.17 feet. It will have retractable tricycle landing gear.
