SIKESTON, MO. $220 MILLION ELECTRIC SYSTEM REVENUE REFUNDING BONDS
'BBB-' BY FITCH -- FITCH FINANCIAL WIRE --
NEW YORK, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The City of Sikeston, Mo.'s $220 million electric system revenue refunding bonds, 1992 series are rated 'BBB-' by Fitch. The credit trend is stable. The bonds are expected to be offered through negotiated sale the week of May 18.
The electric system has weathered a difficult period and is poised to benefit from the improving outlook for power in its region. During this period, the electric system reduced the cost and increased the flexibility of its coal contract, renegotiated contracts with its power purchasers, and stabilized its financial position. The proposed refunding plan will provide additional benefits by replenishing reserve funds and lowering the system's cost of operation, which should further enhance demand for its surplus power.
Continued successful performance of the 222 net megawatt coal-fired generating unit remains an important factor in the rating. Also, most municipal power purchasers, with the exception of Columbia, Mo., evidence only adequate credit quality.
