SIGMA DECODER SILICON SOLUTIONS FEATURED IN NXTV'S NEW BROADBAND DELIVERY SYSTEM.Sigma Designs has announced that their EM8400 MPEG decoder Software or hardware that decompresses and renders MPEG-encoded data. Because MPEG uses lossy compression, the decoded images are not 100% identical to the original. In most cases however, the differences are not easily detectable. See MPEG. silicon was selected by NXTV, Inc., a provider of digital broadband television services for use in their new Broadband Delivery System. NXTV's new system provides digital entertainment and information services targeted for use by hotel guests. The system uses Sigma's EM8400 to enable digital video decoding for various modes of Video-On Demand. Using NXTV's new system, hotel guests are able to choose from interactive broadband services including digital Video-On-Demand movies with Enhanced TV features such as pause, reverse, fast-forward and bookmark which allows guests to stop and restart a movie over a 24 hour period, digital on-demand movie previews, high-speed TV and laptop Internet access and digital satellite TV programming. Last month, NXTV announced a successful installation of its Broadband Delivery System technology at one of the world's leading hotels, The Peninsula Beverly Hills. In addition, NXTV is installing its Broadband Delivery System at four other Los Angeles based showcase hotels with installation scheduled for completion by the end of September 2001. NXTV has digital movie license agreements in place from some of Hollywood's top Studios including Fox, Warner Bros, DreamWorks and Disney, delivers high-speed Internet to hotels via one of its strategic investors, Global Crossing (NYSE:GX), and provides digital satellite TV programming under a content agreement with DirecTV.
