Focus on Internet projects for public networks

A global strategic partnership among three Siemens businesses was launched today, focusing on Internet technology for public networks. Siemens Stromberg-Carlson, Siemens Nixdorf See Fujitsu Siemens.  and Pyramid Technology Pyramid Technology was a computer company that produced a number of RISC-based minicomputers at the upper end of the performance range. They also became the second company to ship a multiprocessor Unix system (branded DC/OSx), in 1985, which formed the basis of their product line  (a Siemens Nixdorf company) will combine their resources and technology for joint Internet projects.

Covering the entire public communication network arena, the partnership strengthens the product range already offered by the Internet Solutions Business Unit of Siemens Stromberg-Carlson by including products from Siemens Nixdorf and Pyramid, such as servers and software. The partnership also includes cooperation on Internet pilot applications; turnkey projects; sales development and project consultation.

"The partnership is for our customers - the worlds Internet Service Providers Internet service provider (ISP)

. They'll immediately benefit from Siemens unified approach to Internet technology, because all three Siemens companies will share information about leading developments. Any way you look at it, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This is a powerful combination of Siemens worldwide resources that will focus on the Internet," said Van Cullens, head of the Internet Solutions Business Unit of Siemens Stromberg-Carlson.

"Our customers will gain the best-of-breed software, platforms, and service. This relationship among the Siemens companies formalizes a process that has been going on for some time. This partnership is a perfect fit for our Internet strategy, which includes alliances with industry-leading application, infrastructure and service partners. In particular, we can leverage our expertise in a variety of vertical Internet markets, such as telecommunications, finance, retail and government," said John Chen, member of the Siemens Nixdorf Executive Board and chairman & president of Pyramid Technology.

Together, Pyramid and Siemens Nixdorf cover the main domains of Internet usage such as information servers, electronic commerce servers, enterprise groupware servers, and integration with legacy systems. The Siemens Stromberg-Carlson Internet Solutions Business Unit has worldwide responsibility for Internet products and applications, bringing to bear the full strength of Siemens innovation and market know-how and offering a complete Internet package enabling existing and potential network operators to become Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
