Staff Writer ANAHEIM - After using their minor-league system liberally over the first two months of the season, the Angels now are turning the tables. The Angels know all about changing on the fly. They have recalled 11 players this season, seven of which have made their major-league debut. Five of those first-time major leaguers came up this month. Yet it was the guidance of steady veterans that did the job Tuesday. Add to that an 11-game hit streak, which is the longest on the team this season. Cabrera certainly was not alone as the Angels dug out of an early 2-0 first-inning hole. Rivera started in left field, while Garret Anderson took over the designated-hitter role for a night. The veteran of note, though, was starter Jeff Weaver. The right-hander was awakened for the second consecutive game by an opponent's home run. While it was the Texas Rangers' Brad Wilkerson who shook Weaver from a month-long slumber in his previous start, it was a blast by the Twins' Torii Hunter that did the trick Tuesday. Hunter gave the Twins a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a home run to center field. Weaver followed Hunter's home run with a strikeout against Michael Cuddyer to end the half inning. After allowing a single to Justin Morneau to open the second, Weaver retired 12 consecutive batters before Jason Kubel led off the sixth with his first home run of the season. Weaver (3-7) went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. He won back-to-back games for the first time this season. Although not as sharp as his younger brother Jered Weaver, who made his major-league debut Saturday, Jeff Weaver grabbed a victory nonetheless. Jered Weaver pitched seven scoreless innings against the Baltimore Orioles. Since Wednesday, the Weaver brothers are 3-0 and have allowed a combined six runs in 20 innings (2.70 ERA) with 14 hits and 14 strikeouts. Not only were the Angels adept with starting pitching and situational hitting, things bode well for the bullpen as well. Brendan Donnelly pitched a scoreless inning, his second strong outing since he blew a save by giving up two runs in a third of an inning May 23 at Texas and watched his ERA rise to 4.36. Donnelly has given up only a bunt single in his last 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his 13th save in 14 chances this season and 31st save in his last 32 opportunities dating back to last season. His only blown save during his current run was on April 18 to the Twins at Minnesota.
