He is widely credited with securing recognition for color photography as a legitimate artistic medium to display in art galleries. , a dominant figure of the post-1960s color documentary style; and 198 prints by 32 established photographers working in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and Latin America, among them Joel Sternfeld, Adam Bartos and Flor Garduno.

The Steichen prints are the gift of Graham Nash, the rock musician and songwriter, and his wife, Susan. Graham Nash also is a photographer, publisher and collector of photographs. The prints include Steichen's ``Wedding Self-Portrait'' (1940), a prime example of the Pictorialist style that depicts the young photographer standing closely by the side of his wife, Clara.

The Eggleston photographs are gifts of the film producer Caldecott Chubb, who was Eggleston's representative and publisher from 1976 to 1980. Chubb is president of Alphaville, a film production company on the Paramount Pictures lot. He produced the feature film ``Eve's Bayou.'' The gift includes several well-known individual photographs, among them ``Tricycle'' (1968) and ``Halloween Children'' (1970s).

The donors of the 198 color and black-and-white prints are Nancy Goliger Berman, executive vice president of creative advertising at Paramount Pictures, and Bruce Berman, chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Village Roadshow Pictures, which produces theatrical features in partnership with Warner Bros BROS Brothers

``For these outstanding donations, the museum is extremely grateful to the Nashes, Mr. Chubb and the Bermans, all of them collectors of the first rank from Southern California,'' said Deborah Gribbon, deputy director and chief curator of the Getty Museum.

Many of the new gifts will be featured in the upcoming exhibition ``William Eggleston and the Color Tradition,'' opening in October.
