Down Under rock riffs launched a perfect picnic season Sunday of Concerts in the Park.

The 28th Concerts in the Park series, produced by the Valley Cultural Center, kicked off a 16-week series of free Sunday music ranging from the Young Dubliners to Vanilla vanilla, a plant of the genus Vanilla of the family Orchidaceae (orchid family). ``This is put together by people who know what they're doing every single summer ... for 28 years,'' Councilman Dennis Zine bellowed over the P.A. system. ``For free!''
