And the ratings winner is: the 57th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

A year after delivering the second-lowest ratings in the awards show's long history, Sunday's night's telecast achieved the highest Emmy viewership levels since 2002 - with ratings rebounding from last year by an impressive 35 percent.

The three-hour show, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, drew an average of 18.6 million viewers, according to preliminary numbers released Monday by CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) See cell broadcast. . Final ratings will be announced today.

The show has been held annually since 1975 and is one of the few to be based on the opinions of the general public.  and the Grammy Awards, which aired against original episodes of ``Housewives.''
