PALMDALE Palmdale, city (1990 pop. 68,842), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the irrigated Antelope Valley; a growing residential suburb of Los Angeles near Little Rock Creek where it forms Lake Palmdale Reservoir, inc. 1962.  -- Sheriff's homicide homicide (hŏm`əsīd), in law, the taking of human life. Homicides that are neither justifiable nor excusable are considered crimes. A criminal homicide committed with malice is known as murder, otherwise it is called manslaughter.  detectives were investigating a shooting that wounded a motorist and killed his passenger on a Palmdale street.

As the victims fled the shooting, their car collided head-on with another car on 10th Street East at Avenue R-4, then caught fire, authorities said. Other people pulled the victims from the burning car.

Before the crash, neighbors reported hearing an argument that stopped and restarted, then several shots, Alvarez said.

The slain man was identified as Elequiel Gonzalez, 22, of Palmdale, coroner's officials said.

Sheriff's deputies cordoned off 10th Street East south of Avenue R after the 10:30 p.m. Monday shooting, because the shooting apparently occurred near a market on Avenue R and the crash a quarter-mile south.

When authorities arrived, they found the passenger already dead from the gunshots. The driver was taken to a hospital.

Deputies said both the driver and the passenger had been shot more than once.
