SHOPKO TO OPEN EIGHT STORES IN 1993

 GREEN BAY, Wis., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- ShopKo Stores, Inc. (NYSE: SKO) today announced plans to open eight stores in 1993, two more than previously announced. Plans also include the remodeling of 15 ShopKo stores in 1993, and intensified remodeling plans in years following. ShopKo is a leading regional discount chain with 111 stores in 13 Midwest, Mountain and Pacific Northwest states.
 Two of the new stores will be built in Colorado, making it the 14th state in the ShopKo chain. "These plans reflect our confidence in ShopKo's ability to compete aggressively in the retail industry," said Dale P. Kramer, president and chief executive officer.
 Each of the new stores will feature ShopKo's Vision 2000 merchandising concept, an upscale discount shopping environment with wider aisles, quality merchandise and innovative fashion displays.
 The eight ShopKo stores to open in 1993 include:
 -- Longmont, Colo. - 98,000 square feet, SW corner of Hover Road and Nelson Road, across from Twin Peaks Mall.
 -- Loveland, Colo. - 98,000 square feet, Eisenhower Road between Madison St. and Lincoln St., next to Sam's Wholesale Club.
 -- Sheboygan, Wis. - 98,000 square feet, SW corner of Taylor St. and Erie St., across from Memorial Mall.
 -- Monroe, Wis. - 71,000 square feet, NW corner of Fourth Ave. and Eighth St.
 -- Duluth, Minn. - 112,000 square feet, NE corner of Central Entrance Road and Trinity Road, a combined development with Cub Foods and Toys R Us, across from Miller Hill Mall.
 -- Lacey, Wash. - 98,000 square feet, NE corner of Interstate 5 and Martin Way, a combined development with Home Base and Tops Foods.
 -- Marshall, Minn. - 71,000 square feet, SE corner of Highway 59 and Highway 23, a relocated store from 315 South Second St. (presently 30,400 sq. ft.)
 -- Mitchell, S.D. - 71,000 square feet, East Main St. between Green Dr. and 23rd St., a relocated store from 1801 North Main St. (presently 51,800 sq. ft.). The new store is part of a combined development with Randall Foods.
 The 15 ShopKo stores to be remodeled in 1993 include: Grand Island, Neb. - 2208 North Webb Rd. Lincoln, Neb. - 4200 S. 27th St. Lincoln, Neb. - 100 S. 66th St. North Platte, Neb. - 510 E. Phillip Ave. Albert Lea, Minn. - 2610 N. Bridge Ave. Austin, Minn. - 1209 18th Ave. Northwest Fairmont, Minn. - 1001 S. Highway 15 St. Cloud, Minn. - 501 Highway 10 Southeast Worthington, Minn. - 1755 N. Humiston Ave. Aberdeen, S.D. - 500 N. Highway 281 Watertown, S.D. - 700 Ninth Ave. Southeast Mason City, Iowa - 615 S. Monroe Ave. Missoula, Mont. - 2510 Reserve St. Chippewa Falls, Wis. - 5925 S. Prairie View Rd. Beloit, Wis. - 2761 Prairie Ave.
