DECORATING INSPIRATION

Paint and wallpaper are usually the least expensive elements in interior design, yet they often are the most difficult to get right. David Oliver David Oliver may refer to one of the following:
  • David Oliver (actor) (1962-1992), an American actor.
  • David Oliver (computer scientist), founder of Cambridge Systems Technology, designer of CST Thor personal computer, now at AMD in Texas.
, design director of the Paint and Paper Library in London, offers advice on the wall-covering process with "Paint and Paper: In Decoration." Oliver begins with the concept of inspiration: What colors reflect your personality? What colors do you prefer in clothing and jewelry? What is your favorite piece of art? He then moves on to practical interpretation, discussing the various types of light and its effects. Finally, he breaks down the color wheel into groups so that a family of colors and its attributes can be considered. The book, published by Rizzoli, contains 250 illustrations to inspire readers to achieve their personal style. "Paint and Paper" retails for $45 at bookstores and through online booksellers.

 CHANGING MADE EASY

Mom Mary Amato was tired of the work required to change crib bedding: first removing all of the bumper ties and toys from the bedding; then squeezing her fingers into the tight space between the mattress and the crib to lift the mattress. It's an ordeal in the best of situations, let alone in the middle of the night with a crying baby needing to get back to sleep. So Amato took matters into her own hands and created the Quick Change Crib. With the footboard of the crib opening like a door, the crib mattress can easily slide out from under all the bumpers and mobiles in the crib. No lifting is required, and the whole changing process takes less than a minute. The door latches close to keep the crib safe for the baby. The Quick Change Crib is made of birch and comes in a choice of six finishes: swan white, French vanilla, natural honey, wet cinnamon, espresso and black onyx. It's available for $349 at www.innovativecribdesigns.com.
