SHOOTINGS LEAVE ONE INJURED.Byline: Daily News PALMDALE - A gunman opened fire on a woman driving to work in Palmdale after she saw the man pull the gun and shoot the driver of another car, officials said Saturday. The woman was not hit by the gunfire, and the motorist who was shot at was hit in the wrist and suffered minor injuries, authorities said. The woman was on her way to work about 6 p.m. Friday when she witnessed a man jump out of a car, run to the driver's side of another car and open fire through the window at a man sitting in the vehicle, sheriff's deputies said. He then ran back to his car and climbed into the passenger's side, and he and the waiting driver sped off. The woman called the Sheriff's Department on her cell phone and began following the gunman so that she could get a license plate number, officials said. The passenger in the fleeing car spotted the woman, stood up through the sun roof and began firing at her. None of the bullets struck the woman's car, and, soon after the gunman opened fire, the woman ended her pursuit. When deputies arrived, they could not locate anyone matching the description or the vehicle involved, but officials say they are investigating the incident and hope to apprehend the shooter. The suspects' car was described as an early 1980s white Honda with a stripe on the side. Anyone with information is asked to call the Palmdale sheriff's station at (661) 267-4300. |
