SHOOTING KILLS ONE, WOUNDS ANOTHER PARKING LOT GUNFIRE SAID TO BE GANG-RELATED.

Byline: CHARLES F. BOSTWICK Staff Writer

PALMDALE -- A gunbattle that broke out in a parking lot outside a bar that hosted a rap music rap music or hip-hop, genre originating in the mid-1970s among black and Hispanic performers in New York City, at first associated with an athletic style of dancing, known as breakdancing.  show left one young Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. The gunbattle seems to be gang-related, said homicide detectives, but the victims aren't gang members.

``I think they were caught in the middle of it,'' sheriff's Sgt. Tim Miley said.

The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  parking lot, as well as fresh graffiti, Miley said.

Killed was a 25-year-old Lancaster man, whose name was not immediately released because authorities were still trying to find his mother to tell her of his death.

Wounded was a 19-year-old Palmdale man, who was taken to a hospital by friends. He was shot in the head but will survive because the bullet didn't penetrate far, Miley said.

More than 20 shots were fired by at least two gunmen about 1:40 a.m. Saturday as people were leaving the Las Islitas bar in the 2500 block of East Palmdale Boulevard. Patrons seem to have been leaving the bar when the gunbattle erupted, Miley said.

An off-duty Marine driving past on Palmdale Boulevard stopped to help the dying man. The Marine had with him a military first-aid kit Noun 1. first-aid kit - kit consisting of a set of bandages and medicines for giving first aid

``He made a heroic effort to save his life but it was too late,'' Miley said.
