SHOE CARNIVAL SEPTEMBER SALES UP 41.9 PERCENT

 EVANSVILLE, Ind., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Shoe Carnival, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCVL) today reported sales for the five week period ended Oct. 2, 1993 increased 41.9 percent to $16.1 million from sales of $11.4 million during the same period in 1992. Comparable store sales increased 11.8 percent.
 Sales for the company's third quarter rose to $44.7 million, a 28.9 percent increase over sales of $34.7 million last year. Comparable store sales for the quarter rose 5.3 percent.
 For the 39 weeks ended Oct. 2, 1993, sales were $110.4 million, an increase of 22.0 percent over sales of $90.5 million during the 39-week period ended Oct. 3, 1992. Comparable store sales increased 5.4 percent for the year-to-date period.
 Shoe Carnival, Inc. is a high volume, value oriented retailer of family


footwear operating a chain of 50 stores in 13 states predominantly in the Midwest and Midsouth.
