SHOE CARNIVAL OCTOBER SALES UP 29.7 PERCENT

 EVANSVILLE, Ind., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Shoe Carnival, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCVL) today reported sales for the four week period ended Oct. 30, 1993, increased 29.7 percent to $11.1 million from sales of $8.6 million during the same period in 1992. Comparable store sales increased 4.2 percent.
 For the 43 weeks ended Oct. 30, 1993, sales were $121.5 million, an increase of 22.7 percent over sales of $99.1 million during the 43-week period ended Oct. 31, 1992. Comparable store sales increased 5.3 percent for the year-to-date period.
 The company also announced the opening of its fifty-first and fifty- second stores. The company's first store in Charleston, W.Va., opened on Oct. 29, 1993, and the company's fifth store in the Cincinnati area opened on Oct. 30, 1993. The company also said that it plans to open three to five additional stores during the remainder of 1993.
 Shoe Carnival, Inc. is a high volume, value oriented retailer of family footwear operating a chain of 52 stores in 14 states predominantly in the Midwest and Midsouth.
