SHERIFF'S SERVICES GET STATE GRANTS GANG PREVENTION PROGRAM IS FUNDED.

The Antelope Valley
 will have more money for gang prevention and domestic-violence services, thanks to two state grants unanimously accepted Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:

The supervisors accepted a $500,000 grant from the Governor's Office of Emergency Services emergency services Emergency care '…services …necessary to prevent death or serious impairment of health and, because of the danger to life or health, require the use of the most accessible hospital available and equipped to furnish those services'  to expand the 7-year-old Gang Violence Suppression Program from Lancaster into other parts of the Antelope Valley.

The United Community Action Network counseling center and Antelope Valley Union High School District The Antelope Valley Union High School District (A.V.U.H.S.D.) is located in the Antelope Valley area of California, in northern Los Angeles County.

The district includes eight public high schools, one trade school, and two continuation high schools in the cities of Palmdale

The grant will be divided among the Sheriff's Department, District Attorney's Office, Probation Department, the United Community Action Network and the high school district.

A second grant will establish the Lancaster Specialized Domestic Violence Unit. The board accepted $83,219 from the state's Office of Emergency Services and $27,740 from the city of Lancaster The City of Lancaster (2002 population: 133,914) is a local government district with city status in Lancashire, England. Its main town is Lancaster, from which it obtained its city status. Other towns in the district include Morecambe, Heysham, Slyne, and Carnforth.  to assign a detective to work full time investigating domestic-violence cases and following them through the courts.

The intent is to increase prosecution of domestic-violence incidents, which often do not make it through the courts because of hesitation from the victims to punish their abusers, said Capt. Carl Deeley, Lancaster sheriff's station commander.

Officials had announced in 2004 a proposal to assign a Lancaster detective full time to investigate domestic-violence cases, but the expected state grant was held up by state reorganization and budget problems, Deeley said.
