SHELTER SEEKING CASH TO RENT FAMILY ROOMS.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- The local homeless shelter Homeless shelters are temporary residences for homeless people. Usually located in urban neighborhoods, they are similar to emergency shelters. The primary difference is that homeless shelters are usually open to anyone, without regard to the reason for need.  will have to turn back families with children unless it raises more money to pay for motel rooms, shelter operators said Monday.

The nonprofit does not allow children younger than 17 to sleep at the seasonal shelter, so it pays for them to stay in motels Motels may refer to any of the following:
  • Motel, a type of temporary commercial accommodation;
  • The Motels, an American new-wave band.
 with their parents.

The operators had $15,000 to rent the motel rooms, but it spent all that money, and last week the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Homeless Services Authority denied their request for more. The operators estimate they need $4,800 to provide shelter for families through March 15, when the winter shelter program ends.
