SHELL TO CONVERT MOBIL STATIONS IN HOUSTON AREA
HOUSTON, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Shell Oil Company completed its

acquisition of 83 Houston-area Mobil service station properties and began converting them to the Shell brand today. In October 1991, Shell announced that it had signed an agreement with Mobil to acquire its service station properties in the Houston area.
"We believe the Mobil acquisition reinforces Shell's commitment to Houston and its motorists. Houston is our hometown. We are proud of it and want to be a significant part of its future," said J. W. Schutzenhofer, vice president of marketing for Shell.
Mobil credit card customers may use their Mobil credit cards for Shell product purchases during a 30-day "honor all" program. This Mobil credit transaction will serve as a Shell credit card application. In addition, Shell will be offering 93 octane in its premium unleaded gasoline, SU 2000E_, at all Shell service stations in the Houston area.
Conversion activities will be completed in phases with all physical changes slated for completion by year end. Shell plans to convert the stations to its "Silverado" design, and will upgrade certain facilities and landscaping. The three Mobil stations in The Woodlands, which were acquired in March, already have been converted to the Shell brand.
With the addition of Mobil's service stations, Shell now markets gasoline through 203 service stations in the Houston area. As the world's best-selling gasoline, Shell emphasizes modern and convenient service stations. Shell sells its gasoline through approximately 8,800 service stations nationwide.
