SHELL CANADA LIMITED ANNOUNCES TEST RESULTS

CALGARY, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Shell Canada Limited today announced test results from its fourth successful natural gas discovery in northeast British Columbia this year.
A well at Burnt River, 125 kilometres southwest of Dawson Creek, flowed gas at up to 1.15 million cubic metres (40 million cubic feet) a day. The gas contains about 10 percent acid gas -- a mixture of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide.
"This recent discovery at Burnt River adds to our successes in northeast British Columbia and contributes toward the continuing growth of Shell's natural gas business," said Roger Brundrit, Shell's vice- president of exploration.
The Burnt River well is 100 percent owned by Shell and is the company's fourth successful well in the area. Shell has also drilled a well at Murray which is awaiting testing.
The Monkman Pass natural gas play covers almost 1 million hectares and is estimated to contain 170 to 200 billion cubic metres (six to seven trillion cubic feet) of natural gas. Shell has a majority interest in 167,000 hectares in the area and plans additional drilling for the next few years.
