HOUSTON, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Sheffield Medical Technologies (AMEX: SHM SHM.WS) shareholders elected four members of the board of directors at the annual shareholders' meeting in Houston December 2. Those elected include: Douglas R. Eger, president of Sheffield Medical Technologies; Arthur M. Jenke, chief financial officer of Sheffield; A. Murray Sinclair, president and director of Noramco Capital Corporation; and, Anthony B. Alphin Jr., president and director of RealAmerica Co.
Additional actions by Sheffield's shareholders include the approval of stock option plans, ratification of the appointment of KPMG Peat Marwick as the independent public accounting firm, and ratification of an option agreement to acquire an exclusive sublicense for a prostate cancer therapy.
The prostate cancer therapy, called UGIF, is a urogenital sinus derived growth inhibitory factor that, according to the company, "may inhibit the growth of transformed cells and tumors in the human prostate." The diagnostic and therapeutic technology currently is undergoing research at the Baylor College of Medicine, under the direction of Dr. David Rowley, assistant professor of Cell Biology at Baylor, with funding provided by Sheffield.
Houston-based Sheffield Medical Technologies provides funding for selected biomedical research and development projects, for which the company plans to seek manufacturing and marketing agreements with established biomedical or pharmaceutical companies.
