SHARPS & FLATS : FEUDING TALKING HEADS JUST CAN'T SEEM TO SEE EYE-TO-EYE.Byline: Fred Shuster The ex-members of the Talking Heads just won't play nice with each other. In one of the longest-running and most disappointing feuds in rock, David Byrne, Tina Weymouth Weymouth (wā`məth), town (1990 pop. 54,063), Norfolk co., E Mass., a suburb of Boston on Hingham Bay; settled 1622, inc. 1635. The state's second oldest settlement, it is chiefly residential. Electronic components, fertilizer, and chemicals are made. Weymouth also has a shoe industry which dates back to the 1850s., Chris Frantz and Jerry Harrison just can't seem to see eye-to-eye on anything. As Weymouth recently revealed, any Talking Heads archival project is a struggle. Take, for example, the recent 15th anniversary re-release of ``Stop Making Sense,'' Jonathan Demme's acclaimed documentary of the Heads first shown in 1984. Using no voice-overs, no cut-aways to the audience or backstage and no between-song patter, the film focused on the music and had 'em dancing in the aisles. ``There's no arguing with David,'' Weymouth says about efforts to restore the print of ``Stop Making Sense'' and the new edition of the soundtrack, which offers seven previously unreleased tracks. ``He says all things are white before dye is added,'' she said. ``There's just no arguing with a guy like that. You can't argue from the point of view of the logical. You just can't win.'' The bass-playing Weymouth, who still fronts the Tom Tom Club with drummer/husband Frantz, insists it was Byrne vs. everyone else during the ``Stop Making Sense'' restoration process. ``I don't know why it has to be this way,'' she said. ``But I think David feels any return to the past is a sign of weakness.'' Byrne was unavailable for comment. The 88-minute digitally remixed and remastered ``Stop Making Sense,'' originally shot at the Pantages Theatre, will be issued Tuesday on DVD with commentary tracks from Byrne and Demme.
