SHARED MEDICAL SYSTEMS REPORTS RESULTS FOR
SECOND QUARTER AND SIX MONTHS ENDED JUNE 30, 1992
MALVERN, Pa., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Shared Medical Systems Corporation (SMS) (NASDAQ: SMED) today announced its financial results for the second quarter of 1992.
Revenues for the second quarter of 1992 were $116,724,000 an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the same period in 1991. Income before income taxes for the quarter ended June 30, 1992, was $11,310,000, up 17.5 percent over the same quarter last year. Net income and net income per share for the current quarter were $7,125,000 and $.31, respectively, an increase of 15.7 percent and 14.8 percent, respectively, compared to the second quarter of 1991.
Revenues for the six months ended June 30, 1992, were $229,183,000, an increase over the same period in 1991 of 8.3 percent. Income before income taxes for the six months ended June 30, 1992, was $22,116,000, up 15.6 percent over the comparable period in 1991. Net income and net income per share for the six months ended June 30, 1992, were $13,933,000 and $.61, respectively, representing increases of 13.8 percent and 13.0 percent, respectively, compared to net income and net income per share during the same period in 1991.
 R. James Macaleer, SMS chief executive officer, said: "These increases are the result of a number of factors, not the least of which is increased sales in 1990 and 1991. This trend has continued into 1992, with recent sales reinforcing the viability of our products and the credibility of our services. Most of the revenues from sales made in 1992 will flow to SMS as recurring revenues, generally starting in 1993 and running for the duration of the contracts, thereby providing increased long-term viability for SMS and further solidifying its position as the world's leading supplier of information services to healthcare organizations. However, although results for the first six months have been good and we are optimistic with respect to the remainder of 1992, SMS' markets continue to be difficult and there is still more work to be done to achieve our current year goals."
