SHANGHAI AIRLINES ORDERS PW4156 ENGINES FOR 767-300S

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Shanghai Airlines has selected Pratt & Whitney PW4056 engines to power its five new Boeing 767-300 wide-body aircraft. The order for 14 installed and spare engines is valued at nearly $100 million to Pratt & Whitney. Deliveries will begin in July 1994 and continue through 1998.
"The PW4000's proven performance fits well with Shanghai Airlines' priority on customer service," said Don Lang, president of Pratt & Whitney China. "We're pleased to be enhancing our relationship with this fine airline."
Shanghai Airlines has been a Pratt & Whitney customer since 1989, when the first P&W-powered Boeing 757 entered service with the airline. Shanghai now has three PW2000-powered 757s in service and will take delivery of two additional aircraft later this year.
The PW4000 is Pratt & Whitney's largest and most powerful engine family. The PW4056 selected by Shanghai Airlines will provide 56,000 pounds of thrust for the 767-300. Other PW4000 models now in development include the PW4168 for the Airbus A330 and PW4084 for the Boeing 777. To date, more than 2,500 PW4000 engines are on firm and option order with 64 customers worldwide.
Pratt & Whitney is a unit of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX) based in Hartford, Conn.
