SEVERAL SUNRISE SERVICES SCHEDULED FOR EASTER SUNDAY.

Byline: Charles F. Bostwick Staff Writer

AGUA DULCE - Community sunrise services are planned for Easter Sunday at Vasquez Rocks County Park in Agua Dulce, Red Rock Canyon State Park north of Mojave, and the Juniper Hills Community Association Bowl south of Pearblossom.

The most elaborate of the services is at Vasquez Rocks, where dozens of Agua Dulce and Acton residents will dress as Roman soldiers, Jerusalem townsfolk and angels to retell the Easter story of Jesus' trial, crucifixion and resurrection.

``It's going to be amazing this year,'' said Marie Sheridan, a singer in the production.

The service, tentatively set to start at 5 a.m., is sponsored by Family Community Church of Agua Dulce, Agua Dulce Christian Church, Agua Dulce Foursquare Church and Faith Bible Church of Acton.

People can watch from their vehicles or climb up on the rocks with blankets, Sheridan said. Chairs will also be lined up. Organizers recommend that worshipers arrive about 4:30 a.m.

The cast will distribute freshly baked bread to the worshipers, recalling the miracle of Jesus multiplying bread to feed a crowd of listeners.

In Juniper Hills, the Foothill Christian Ministerial Association of Littlerock and Pearblossom will host its annual service starting at 6 a.m. April 23 in the bowl at 31401 106th St. E.

The one-hour service will include music by the Pearblossom Community United Methodist Church choir and soloist Terry Parsons. The Rev. Don Austin, pastor of Pearblossom Community United Methodist Church, will speak on ``Christ the Lord is Risen Today.''

Organizers suggested that people dress warmly and bring pillows and blankets.

Participating churches include Pearblossom Foursquare Church, Littlerock Hispanic Community Presbyterian Church, St. Andrew's Abbey, Littlerock Community Presbyterian Church, Pearblossom Community United Methodist Church, Littlerock Assembly of God, Memorial Church of God in Christ and South Antelope Valley Church of the Nazarene.

Mojave's 93rd annual sunrise service will start at 6 a.m. at Red Rock Canyon, about 17 miles north of Mojave on Highway 14, put on this year by youths from Mojave churches.

The speaker will be Mojave House of Prayer Youth Pastor Phillip Tweedt.

The Mojave Ministerial Association and the Red Rock Canyon Easter Sunrise Service Association sponsor the service. For worshipers interested in arriving Saturday, there are camping facilities in the state park.
