SEVEN FRENCH TECHNICAL SCHOOLS SELECT VIEWLOGIC DESIGN TOOLS TO TRAIN ELECTRONICS STUDENTS

MARLBORO, Mass., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Viewlogic Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ: VIEW) today announced it has been selected by French education officials to supply state-of-the-art electronic design automation tools to seven technical schools in and around Paris.
The contract is valued at approximately US $572,000.
Viewlogic's Powerview(tm) and Workview(tm) design environments, for use on UNIX- and DOS-based computer systems, respectively, will be used to train technicians who are preparing to move into the French electronics industry.
"Viewlogic is honored to provide the design automation tools of choice for technical schools in the Region Ile de France (RIDF)," Gene Robinson, Viewlogic's senior vice president of sales and marketing, said. "Partnering with universities and other educational institutions is a high priority for Viewlogic, since the electronics designers of tomorrow are learning the profession at these schools today."
RIDF selected Viewlogic because its tools are easy to learn and use, allowing a smoother integration of new technicians into the electronics design process within companies, according to French officials.
This contract brings to 12 the total number of French technical schools currently equipped with Viewlogic tools. These institutions train a combined total of approximately 300 electronics students per year. In all there are 117 such schools throughout France, educating nearly 6,000 students annually.
The RIDF contract includes Viewlogic's Viewdraw, Viewsim, ViewPLD, Hspice, and Viewlogic libraries. Systems will also include products from IBM and CADAM.
Viewlogic's Powerview and Workview tool suites are standards-based design automation solutions that enable easy integration with proprietary and third-party tools to preserve customers' investments in existing equipment and designs.
