fitness belts and premium fitness gloves. Our products are geared toward professional and casual weightlifters and are particularly attractive to back pain sufferers.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS? Yes and no. Setwear Products began in 1999, then we branched off to this.

WHY DID YOU START THIS BUSINESS? With the success of the gloves and lifting belts among gaffers Gaffers

, it was only natural that we decided to increase our market by expanding to the consumer fitness market.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA? When my brother had back surgery, he needed a belt that could not only provide support, but that could also easily tighten to whatever tension he wanted. We came up with a weight belt design that you could adjust instantly, along with a wedge-shaped spine support that closes the gap between the belt and the spine. As there was (and still is) no other belt like it, we thought we would pursue this as a commercial venture.

HOW LONG WAS IT FROM CONCEPT TO OPENING? One year

WHAT DID YOU DO DURING THAT TIME? During that time, we focused on Setwear Products, which has 400 dealers worldwide and is the basis for Setwear Fitness.

WHAT WERE YOUR STARTUP (STARTing UP) "At startup" means when the computer is first turned on or when a program is first loaded. See Startup folder.  COSTS AND HOW DID YOU FINANCE THE BUSINESS? Using all the money from the three of us combined, it probably cost us close to $100,000.

WHO DID YOU RELY ON FOR ADVICE? Each other. We have learned from our experience in the entertainment business what it takes to market a company.

WHAT HADN'T had·n't

Contraction of had not.

hadn't had not

YOU CONSIDERED BEFORE OPENING? Warehouse space!

WHAT IS YOUR EXPECTED REVENUE THIS YEAR? $500,000

WHAT GOALS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE COMPANY? We're committed to offering the most effective, well-manufactured and progressively minded products in the fitness business. With our commitment to customer satisfaction and product excellence, our immediate goal is to double our revenues this year.
