SES AMERICOM Affiliate, Sistemas Satelitales de Mexico, Earns Long-Term Satellite Capacity Contract with Comsat Mexico.

), has announced that its affiliate Sistemas Satelitales de Mexico, S. de R.L. de C.V., (SSM SSM

) was awarded a long-term contract by Comsat Mexico, S.A. de C.V., a division of Comsat International, for Ku-band satellite capacity on AMC-4.

Comsat Mexico provides commercial data network solutions, including region-wide connectivity, data center, Internet, voice, satellite, broadcast, and managed services, for enterprise and carrier clients based in the United States, Mexico and throughout Latin America. Comsat Mexico will use AMERICOM's AMC-4 bandwidth via SSM to deliver broadband and transactional VSAT (Very Small Aperture satellite Terminal) A small earth station for satellite transmission that handles up to 56 Kbits/sec of digital transmission. VSATs that handle the T1 data rate (up to 1.544 Mbits/sec) are called "TSATs.  (Very Small Aperture Terminal (communications) Very Small Aperture Terminal - (VSAT) A kind of ground station used to contact a communications satellite such as INMARSAT. ) and SCPC SCPC Single Channel Per Carrier

Brooks added that the relationship between SES AMERICOM and Comsat is especially important, as Comsat (together with Elara Comunicaciones) has recently signed contracts with I+D I+D Investigación y Desarrollo (Spanish: Research and Development)  Mexico and Farmacias de Similares, under which Comsat will deploy more than 1,000 VSATs for Caminos y Puentes Federales de Ingresos y Servicios Conexos (CAPUFE), to process

electronic toll payments, as well as for a pharmacy network in Mexico.

About AMC-4

AMC-4 is a hybrid C- and Ku-band satellite that became fully operational in January 2000 at 101 degrees west longitude. Its C-band transponders cover the continental United States United States territory, including the adjacent territorial waters, located within North America between Canada and Mexico. Also called CONUS. , Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Its Ku-band transponders cover North and South America, as each Ku-band transponder A receiver/transmitter on a communications satellite. It receives a microwave signal from earth (uplink), amplifies it and retransmits it back to earth at a different frequency (downlink). A satellite has several transponders.  can be switched between North America and South America, fully supporting two-way communication throughout the Americas. This satellite also has four transponders in the extended Ku-band, which enable inter-American communications.
