SERVICES TO HONOR VICTIMS, VETERANS.Byline: Daily News When terrorists struck Sept. 11 and Operation Enduring Freedom got under way, organizers of one of the annual Memorial Day ceremonies became determined to honor those involved. ``We knew we had to make a memorial, to see the people who were involved in it were properly recognized for their sacrifice,'' said Hal Geer, the producer-director of the Monday service at Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, where 9-11 will be remembered, along with 200 years of American military service. The purpose of Memorial Day, often forgotten amid the day off, barbecues and shopping sales, will take center stage this weekend at events around the region.
