SERVICES SET FOR CANOE VICTIM.Byline: Daily News Funeral services have been set for Scott Sullenger, the missing paddler whose body was recovered nearly three weeks after his outrigger outrigger, canoe-type vessel with a wood or bamboo float attached to the side of the craft and extending out over the water. The term outrigger also refers to the float itself. The craft is used throughout the South Pacific, although its greatest development has probably come in Sri Lanka, where traders may load up to 30 tons of cargo into a single vessel. The main islands are Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, and Sark, and there are several smaller islands, including Herm, Jethou, and Lithou; all the islands are dependencies of the British crown. The inhabitants have traditionally been mostly of Norman descent, but on Alderney the stock is mainly English. Harbor. Sullenger's was the second death associated with the incident. A public memorial service for Sullenger will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Channel Islands Vineyard Fellowship, 1851 Holser Walk in Oxnard. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people send donations to the Outrigger Canoe Trust Fund at the Channel Islands Boulevard or Oxnard Boulevard branches of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. Sullenger is survived by his parents, Rudy and Arlene, and his siblings, Viki, Valerie, Buzz, Tevis, Rick, Brent and Lori. |
