SERVICE AND SCHOLARSHIP EMBLEM CLUB MARKS BIRTHDAY WITH SCHOOL HELP.

Honored guests and members of the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Emblem Club No. 459 gathered recently to hand out scholarship awards and to celebrate the club's 34th birthday.

Scholarship awards were presented to four outstanding local 2004 high school graduates: Gina Albert of Canyon High is attending UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
, where she majors in journalism; Jessica Bleifer of Saugus High also attends UCLA, where she plans to earn a doctorate degree in pharmacology pharmacology, study of the changes produced in living animals by chemical substances, especially the actions of drugs, substances used to treat disease. Systematic investigation of the effects of drugs based on animal experimentation and the use of isolated and ; Ashley Labios of Hart High attends the University of San Francisco's School of Nursing; and Jeffrey Peak of Canyon High attends Creighton University Sitting on a 108-acre campus just outside Omaha's downtown business district in the Near North Side neighborhood, the University currently enrolls about 6,800 students. Creighton is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. , where he is majoring in broadcast journalism Broadcast journalism refers to television news and radio news, as well as the online news outlets of broadcast affiliates. .

Honored guests in attendance at the celebration included Barbara Colburn, Emblem supreme third vice president and supreme officer; Jay Larkins, past state vice president of the Metropolitan District; and Kenny Song, exalted ex·alt·ed

Simone Swanson was awarded a lifetime membership with the Emblem Club for her service to the club as an officer throughout the years, including past president, and for her many years of dedicated service and numerous fund-raising activities for her club and the Elks Lodge.

Swanson is currently the California-Nevada-Hawaii State Association of Emblem Clubs first assistant marshal, Santa Clarita Emblem Club No. 459 marshal and Santa Clarita Elks Lodge No. 2379 treasurer.

Diane Tubbs, this year's junior past president, was awarded ``Emblem of the Year'' for her exceptional service and many fund-raising activities.
