SERENA Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:SRNA), a supplier of software that automates change to enterprise code and content, recently announced the general availability of Serena ChangeMan ZDD, Desktop Development for z/OS & OS/390. An industry first, Serena ChangeMan ZDD simplifies cross-platform development by eliminating the need for manual file transfers, as well as delivering automated software change management (SCM) to mainframe applications developed within desktop environments for increased quality and faster time to market. Because the product integrates seamlessly with Serena ChangeMan ZMF, Application Change Manager for Mainframe Systems, software assets remain in the protected environment of Serena ChangeMan ZMF, enabling customers to free IT resources dedicated to transfer requirements and ensure the integrity of their SCM processes.

The product's representation of mainframe data and files as a drive letter with hierarchical folders -- viewable within Microsoft Windows Explorer, contributes to its ease of use. As the pool of traditional skilled mainframe resources continues to shrink, delivering easy to use tools for developing mainframe applications from the desktop will grow in importance.
