SEPTA TAKES OVER 'SHARED RIDE' PROGRAM FOR SENIORS, EFFECTIVE
SUNDAY, NOV. 8; RIDE RESERVATIONS START NOV. 1
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- SEPTA ParaTransit will be responsible -- starting Sunday, Nov. 8 -- for managing the Pennsylvania Lottery-funded Shared Ride Program for persons 65 and older in the Philadelphia area, SEPTA announced today.
Shared Ride is an advance reservation, door-to-door ParaTransit service, with SEPTA ParaTransit now assuming responsibility for reservations, scheduling, service monitoring and supervision. SEPTA will begin taking ride reservations on Sunday, Nov. 1, for rides on Nov. 8 and thereafter.
Using existing lists of persons registered for Shared Ride, SEPTA has already mailed new identification cards to patrons, along with information on important phone numbers, service hours, service area and fares. There are about 61,500 registered Shared Ride patrons in the area, about 8,000 of whom are regular riders.
The important SEPTA ParaTransit phone numbers, all in area code 215, are 580-7700 for trip reservations and advance cancellations, 580-7720 for same-day cancellations and to report service problems, and 580-7145 for information or to register complaints or suggestions.
Service hours for Shared Ride are every day of the week from 6 a.m. until midnight. Reservations are taken seven days a week, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., and between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The service area includes anywhere within the city of Philadelphia, plus 40 locations outside the city. The locations include the 34 medical facilities currently served by Shared Ride, and also Bala Plaza, Cheltenham Square Mall and Neshaminy Mall.
Shared Ride Fares for seniors are $2.40 for a one-way trip, or $1.95 per individual when there is a group reservation for three or more persons.
SEPTA ParaTransit has served the door-to-door transportation needs of disabled persons for over 10 years. With this new responsibility, the unit is located in expanded new quarters with upgraded computer capabilities at 714 Market St., Philadelphia.
