SENIOR GAMES CEREMONY SET FOR TONIGHT.

Hundreds of seniors from Ventura County and parts of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County are expected to participate in the fourth annual Moorpark Senior Games, which officially kick off tonight with a ceremony at City Hall.

An estimated 300 seniors are expected to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in 17 events, ranging from basketball to bridge.

``We started the Senior Games so that we could have an opportunity to get together,'' said Carol Ghens, Moorpark Senior Center coordinator. ``It's a big social event, and they get to meet other seniors in a variety of activities. And it's proved to be such a success that we've added events.''

In a meeting of the generations, about 80 elementary and middle school children will form doubles teams with seniors in the basketball key shots and checkers checkers, game for two players, known in England as draughts. It is played on a square board, divided into 64 alternately colored—usually red and black or white and black—square spaces, identical with a chessboard.  events.

This is the third year that children have participated in the games.

Competition will start at 8 a.m. Thursday with golf at Sinaloa Park in Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  and conclude Oct. 15 with walking events at Poindexter Park.
