SENIOR ARTISTS TO SELL CRAFTS AT CENTER'S FAIR.

Byline: Alicia Doyle Daily News Staff Writer

Senior-made gifts including porcelain dolls, jewelry and decorated clothing will be featured during a spring arts and crafts fair Friday and Saturday at the Simi Valley Senior Center.

Other items such as ceramics, boutique items and toys will be sold from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days at the senior center, 3900 Avenida Simi.

The fair, which takes place twice a year, is appealing because each gift is made by seniors, individuals older than 50 years, said Kathryn Oliver, senior services coordinator.

``Everything we do promotes senior citizens,'' Oliver said. ``That's what makes the fair unique.''

Proceeds from the fair go to those who made the gifts, Oliver said, while booth rental money helps fund the Simi Valley Council on Aging.

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will take place during the second day of the fair from 8 to 11 a.m.

The event is being sponsored by the Council on Aging and the Rotary Club of Simi Valley Noontimers.

Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Simi Valley Meals on Wheels program, which provides meals to homebound homeĀ·bound (hmbound)

seniors and the disabled who are unable to go to the store and shop for their own food.

Tickets for the breakfast are $3 and can be purchased in advance at the senior center or at the door the day of the event.

The fund-raiser is one of many that helps the Meals on Wheels program, and pays for the cost of delivering the food, Oliver said.

``It (the fund-raiser) helps us reach out to everyone we can possibly serve,'' Oliver said.
