SENATOR'S AIDE FILES FOR COUNCIL RACE.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - The April 11 City Council race has its first official entry.

Cameron Smyth Cameron Smyth is a Republican who has represented Califoria's 38th Assembly district since December of 2006. He succeeded Keith Richman who was term limited.

Prior to being elected to the state legislature, Assemblyman Smyth served on the Santa Clarita City Council, where he
, 28, returned nomination papers to the City Clerk's Office on Tuesday. Smyth, who works as deputy chief of staff to state Sen. W.J. ``Pete'' Knight, R-Palmdale, was one of 13 local residents who took out candidacy papers in recent weeks.

To be listed on the April 11 ballot, candidates have until Friday to return them, or Jan. 19 if no incumbents file, a City Clerk In the United States, a City Clerk is an elected or appointed official who is responsible as the official keeper of the municipal records. Also on Tuesday, candidacy papers were taken out by city Planning Commission Chairman Robert Kellar, whose second term expires in July 2002.

Two nonpartisan, four-year City Council terms, currently held by Councilwomen Jill Klajic and Jan Heidt, will be contested in the April 11 municipal election. Both Heidt and Klajic have announced they will not seek re-election.

Candidacy papers have been taken out by Dennis Conn, 52, a local cable television talk-show personality; Eileen Connolly, 45, a 10-year Saugus school board member; Dennis Farnham, 55, a retired Los Angeles Police Department "LAPD" and "L.A.P.D." redirect here.
