Byline: Daily News

VALENCIA - College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  is hosting a seminar on international trade for local business owners interested in competing with firms around the Pacific Rim Pacific Rim, term used to describe the nations bordering the Pacific Ocean and the island countries situated in it. The event is the first in what officials hope will be a series of workshops offered in partnership with the California Centers for International Trade Development, said Dena Maloney, dean of economic development at the college.

``They're designed to assist business to develop their capacity to conduct international trade,'' she said. ``(CITDs) work with a variety of industries - providing resources and training so companies can effectively operate in a global marketplace.''

Funded through the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, the CITDs have often led foreign trade missions for local business representatives and encouraged international trade.

``Particularly with manufacturing, it's important to explore opportunities to establish supply chains and potential customers overseas,'' Maloney said. ``It's an untapped opportunity for many companies.''

Because College of the Canyons does not have its own CITD CITD Centers for International Trade Development  chapter, the seminar is organized by trade development offices at Citrus and Oxnard colleges Oxnard College is a California-state funded community college located in Oxnard, California.
