Police and animal control officers were perplexed by separate pieces of thick twine looped around the bobcat's head, through its mouth and around a paw.

``I would probably presume that somebody tried to snare her because she was probably preying on their chickens or something, and she escaped them,'' said Diana Hofman, Wind Canyon founder.

Ripperda and Hofman cut the twine away, gave the bobcat intravenous fluids and antibiotics and removed fleas.

Hofman said the bobcat weighs about 12 pounds, while 40 pounds is normal. She said the bobcat appears to be about 6 years old and has two broken canine teeth, which may make hunting difficult.
