The new version, which will be available at the end of April, supports the Unified Modeling Language See UML.

In 1994, SELECT offered the first object-oriented (OO) modeling toolset to support the combination of Rumbaugh's OMT (Object Modeling Technique) An object-oriented analysis and design method developed by James Rumbaugh. See Rational Rose.

"J. Frank is using SELECT Enterprise for Forte as a large product development effort. The 5.1 version of SELECT Enterprise will allow us to use such UML features as the interface mechanism and categories, as well as provide us with a standard notation Standard notation refers to a general agreement in the way things are written or denoted. The term is generally used in technical and scientific areas of study like mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, but can also be seen in areas like business, economics and music.  for documenting the product design. We also intend to take advantage of the new IDL generation," said Bob Lent, distinguished engineer for J. Frank, a vendor of large-scale customer service solutions.

With this new version of SELECT Enterprise, improved code generation and reverse-engineering for C++ will result in faster generation, increased flexibility and overall enhanced performance. The addition of a CORBA IDL generator will allow IDL to be compiled by CORBA 2.0 compliant Object Request.

The bi-directional interface will extract object model information from SELECT Enterprise via OLE automation See COM automation.  and allow modifications to the entity relationship model to be reflected back into the SELECT object model.

"Today's leading corporations are building distributed OO applications to gain competitive advantage. However, they continue to leverage their major investment in RDBMS (Relational DataBase Management System) See relational database and DBMS.

SELECT Enterprise v5.1 Benefits:

-- Industry standard method support (UML);

-- Entity relationship modeling through integration with ERwin;

-- Faster C++ code generation and reverse-engineering;

-- CORBA 2.0 IDL generation;
