SEIU LOCAL 666: WEDNESDAY CONTRACT DEADLINE FOR PEOPLES GAS UNION

GREENSBURG, Pa., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The contract covering 600 members of Local 666 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), who work for Peoples Natural Gas, will expire at midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 27, the union said today. The union said health care benefits for current employees and retirees are two major issues separating the two sides.
"We hope that we can reach a settlement. That has always been our goal in these negotiations. However, we cannot agree to a contract with major concessions on health care for our members or our retirees when Peoples Natural Gas and their parent company, Consolidated Natural Gas (NYSE: CNG), have been making record profits," said J.J. Johnston, president of SEIU Local 666.
There will be a general membership meeting of the union Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Inn in Monroeville, Pa., to discuss the final proposal from the company.
SEIU Local 666 represents 600 workers at Peoples Natural Gas who do customer service work and maintain the safety of the company's gas lines.
