SEISMED INSTRUMENTS REPORTS THIRD QUARTER RESULTS
 MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Seismed Instruments

Incorporated (NASDAQ: SEISC) today announced sales and net income for the third quarter and nine months ended June 30, 1992. Net sales for the third quarter and nine months ended June 30, 1992, were $91,695 and $204,752, respectively, compared to $8,922 and $38,320 for the same periods in the prior year. The increases of $82,773 and $166,432 for the third quarter and nine months ended June 30, 1992, reflect the company's continuing expansion of its international distributor network. The company reported a net loss for the third quarter and nine months ended June 30, 1992, of $884,244 (or $.27 per share) and $2,820,353 (or $.86 per share), respectively, compared to a net loss of $719,159 (or $.22 per share) and $1,763,952 (or $.68 per share) for the same periods in the prior years.
Seismed Instruments has developed a new technology known as seismocardiography (SCG). Clinical studies have shown that stress SCG testing significantly improves the accuracy of diagnosing coronary artery disease. The stress SCG test is performed in conjunction with routine stress ECG testing and the SCG identifies abnormalities in cardiac function that are not detected by the stress ECG alone. The two tests are much more accurate than one test and can be performed on patients undergoing stress testing in physician offices, clinics and hospitals. The company is working to establish insurance reimbursement for this high quality, low cost stress test. Over 50 insurance companies throughout the United States have paid for stress SCG procedures, and efforts are underway to establish a unique billing code for the stress SCG procedure. The company has established a United States and international distribution network to sell the company's first instrument, the SCG-2000, as well as software modules, SEISMO patches and accessories.
Evaluation of cardiac function using SCG technology may also be important in a number of other clinical settings. The company recently filed a patent application on the method and apparatus for using the SCG to optimize the A-V Delay setting on dual chamber pacemakers. A software module has been developed for the SCG-2000 that allows users to upgrade their SCG-2000 systems for the pacemaker application. Dr. Frank Marcus of the University of Arizona has worked with the company to develop the software and is currently evaluating this application of SCG technology in his pacemaker clinic. The recently filed patent application also relates to the use of SCG technology as a closed-loop feedback system inside a pacemaker for monitoring cardiac function and modifying pacemaker settings automatically.
