SEEQ Announces Production Availability of Two New Four-Port Ethernet MAC Controller ICs.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 1997--SEEQ Technology, Incorporated (NASDAQ NASDAQ

product family: the 84301 and the 8431.

Pin-compatible with the industry-standard 84C300A and 84C30A, the new SEEQ products provide switch system manufacturers with a cost-effective cost-effective,
n the minimal expenditure of dollars, time, and other elements necessary to achieve the health care result deemed necessary and appropriate.
upgrade path to complete network management support.

Building on Established Switch MAC Leaders

"In 1995 SEEQ established a leadership position with the 84C300A and 84C30A, the industry's first integrated four port Fast Ethernet MAC controller ICs," stated Barry Gray

, SEEQ's vice president of marketing. "The 84301 and 8431 enable pin-compatible upgrades to these products, with greatly enhanced network management statistics functions, providing our customers with a complete selection of integrated switch-MACs." -0-

Enabling Higher LAN Switch Performance at Lower Cost

"Network management per port is the key to building and
maintaining complex networks," stated Gray. "SEEQ's 84301 and
8431 provide the switch with network traffic statistics which
comprise the heart of network management. The alternative is to use
a microprocessor, which drives up system cost."
"These products were developed in concert with Bay Networks, who
wanted a time to market and performance advantage over their
competition," continued Gray. "The 84301 and 8431 are now
available to all of our customers, who can take advantage of their
added performance without hardware re-design."

Open Architecture Simplifies System Integration

SEEQ's multi-port MAC family is designed to greatly simplify
system integration and design of embedded switch systems. Their
universal system interface makes them the most economical solution
for use in Ethernet switches as well as bridges and routers.
Characteristics of the open system interface include:

   Feature Benefit
- Synchronous 32-bit data bus - High bandwidth system interface
                                    (more than 1Gbps)
- Little Endian and Big Endian - Processor-independent
  Data Formats (Intel/Motorola/Other)

- 8 bit command/status bus - Simple system integration
- Independent 128 Byte Tx/Rx - Supports fast-burst data transfers
  FIFOs for each channel

Pricing and Availability

Pricing in 1,000 piece quantities for the SEEQ 84301 is $53; the SEEQ 8431 is priced at $37. Both are in production now and available for volume shipments.
