SEEING GREEN ST. PADDY'S RIDE RAISES CASH FOR KIDS.

Byline: Heather MacDonald Staff Writer

NEWHALL - After swilling green beer in plastic cups and chowing down on corned beef and cabbage cabbage, leafy garden vegetable of many widely dissimilar varieties, all probably descended from the wild, or sea, cabbage (Brassica oleracea) of the family Cruciferae (mustard family), found on the coasts of Europe. , about 100 leather-clad bikers roared through Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987.  Day ride raised about $2,000 for the reading and boxing programs at the Santa Clarita Community Center.

``It's a great way to do something worthwhile for the community and show that bikers aren't all that bad,'' said Lynn Salvatori of Newhall whose license plate - UNBRDLD - spoke for itself.

After gathering in Newhall, the bikers rumbled on to Mulligan's Bar on Tournament Road in Valencia and to several Irish pubs in Ventura before returning to the Rendezvous on Railroad Avenue to party into the wee hours of the morn'.

``We're here for the kids - and to support this community,'' said Canyon Country resident Brett Regan, who, like many of the riders, was dressed in head-to-toe black leather and denim.

Despite overcast skies, a cool breeze and the threat of showers, many of the riders said the fund-raiser was the perfect way to spend St. Patrick's Day.

``We got rained on a bit up in Ventura,'' said Rachel Bycheck, who rode with her husband, Ken. ``But it is for a good cause. This bar has done a lot of good things for this area.

Most of the money raised will be used to send members of the community center's reading program to the Legoland amusement park amusement park, a commercially operated park offering various forms of entertainment, such as arcade games, carousels, roller coasters, and performers, as well as food, drink, and souvenirs.  near San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. Any remaining funds will be used to support the community center's award-winning boxing program, said Lisa Gerstenberger, one of the bar's owners.

``The center is so important to this community, and we're glad that we can help anyway we can,'' Gerstenberger said. ``We're thrilled that we met our goal and exceeded what we raised last year.''

The bar will host another ride on Cinco de Mayo Cinco de Mayo
