Current state law only applies to children age 12 or younger. Offenders can be charged with either an infraction Violation or infringement; breach of a statute, contract, or obligation.

that adults who lure innocent children away from their homes get away with a slap on the wrist,'' Runner, R-Lancaster, said.

Runner's Assembly Bill 501 would make it illegal for an adult to communicate with a child 15 or younger with the intent to lure the child to a location without parental consent.

First offenders could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and repeat offenders to state prison.

Runner introduced his bill Wednesday. Its first committee hearing is expected sometime next month.

Runner noted that state law now does not cover incidents like the disappearance last week of a 15-year-old Alhambra girl whose family believed she was lured away by someone she met on the Internet. The girl turned up safe Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio.

Locally, a Palmdale assistant principal is awaiting trial on federal charges of using ``a facility of interstate commerce interstate commerce
