SECRETARY OF STATE TAFT ANNOUNCES PRENTICE HALL WILL PROVIDE ONLINE COMPUTER ACCESS TO CORPORATE FILINGS

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Secretary of State Bob Taft announced today that Prentice Hall Legal & Financial Services has begun offering online computer access to the corporations database of the Secretary of State's office.
The company's Prentice Hall Online service (PHO) will provide immediate access to Ohio incorporation, qualification and good standing records to the financial, corporate and legal communities.
"This service will give customers fast, accurate access to the records that are vital to so many legal and financial transactions," Taft said.
Prentice Hall, based in New York, is the second company this year to announce online access to the estimated 800,000 corporation records on file in Taft's office. In January, Mead Data Central Inc. in Dayton piloted the online access to this corporate information through its LEXIS(R) service after working jointly with Taft's office.
In the coming months, other companies are expected to purchase magnetic computer tapes of this corporate data from Taft's office, enabling them to also provide online computer access to corporate records. Fees for purchasing the tapes were approved by the State Controlling Board.
Prentice Hall officials said the company's Ohio Corporate Data File will include all active corporate filings, plus inactive filings for the past five years. The file will provide the exact corporate name, corporate number, date and state of incorporation, type of corporate filing and status, name and address of registered agent, name of incorporators, stock and corporate filing history.
The Secretary of State's office will update the corporate data files weekly. Companies interested in purchasing the corporations data should contact Taft's Information Systems Director, Tony Bachman, at 614-466-1890.
