SECOND CHARLESTOWN RESIDENT SENTENCED FOR BANK ROBBERY

BOSTON, Nov. 19 ~PRNewswire~ -- A Charlestown man was sentenced in federal court yesterday to 15 years imprisonment for bank robbery.
U.S. Attorney A. John Pappalardo announced that District Court Judge Robert E. Keeton sentenced Donald Mirdik, of 249 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, to 15 years imprisonment followed by three years supervised release for his role in the March 3, 1992, robbery of the Fleet Bank, 300 Andover Street, Peabody. A co-defendant, Richard Donovan, also of Charlestown, was previously sentenced to 21 years imprisonment. Both men were ordered to pay equal restitution in the amount of $100.
Defendant Mirdik and co-defendant Donovan pleaded guilty on Sept. 8, 1992, to the bank robbery. At that time, the government described the robbery as follows: At approximately 11:05am on March 3, 1992, Mirdik and Donovan entered the Fleet Bank. While Donovan brandished a large revolver, Mirdik vaulted the teller counter. The two stole $200 and fled the bank. After a vehicle pursuit, state troopers apprehended the Defendants.
The case was investigated by Special Agents of the Department of Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Massachusetts State Troopers, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen A. Higginson of Pappalardo's Major Crimes Unit.
