IV quarterfinal.

Royal (8-4), making its first playoff appearance in five years, is 0-4 in quarterfinal games.

The Tigers (11-1), who are seeking their fifth section title and their second in four years, are in the playoffs for a ninth consecutive season.

``We played our hearts out, we just came out short,'' said Royal senior running back Danny Mosier, who rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries, including 77- and 74-yard scoring runs.

``This could be my last game, and it's a big letdown for our team, but it was an awesome season,'' Mosier said. ``We went farther than anyone expected us to, so that makes us winners right there.''

After trailing 14-0 early on scores set up by a fumble inside their own 10 and a blocked punt returned for a touchdown, the Highlanders fought back.

Mosier's 77-yard run midway through the first quarter gave Royal some momentum.

A seven-play, 80-yard scoring drive - highlighted by a 40-yard pass from Kevin Harrington Kevin Harrington (born 4 September 1959 in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian actor who is perhaps best known for his role as David Bishop on the Australian soap opera Neighbours.  to Mosier - and an ensuing two-point conversion run by Harrington with a little more than a minute left in the first half got Royal back in the game after a San Luis Obispo score midway through the second quarter.

Then after a defensive stop to start the second half, Mosier tied the score on a thrilling 74-yard cutback cut·back

Royal was shut down the rest of the way, with San Luis Obispo scoring 24 consecutive points.

The Tigers were led by Phil Garza, who rushed for 180 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries.

``We were picked as low as seventh in our league, and we won the league championship with a team that everyone thought was average at best (and) we won a playoff game,'' Royal coach Gene Uebelhardt said. ``We did a good job tonight, but a better team won.

``We got experience, and we'll be back next year.''
