HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lt. General William G. Pagonis, 52, commanding general of the 21st Theater Army Area Command of the U.S. Army in Europe, has been appointed senior vice president of logistics for Sears Merchandise Group, Arthur C. Pagonis' appointment will be effective later this year, pending Congressional and Presidential approval of his retirement from the U.S. Army. Pagonis then will be nominated for election as senior vice president by the Sears board of directors.
"`Gus' Pagonis has compiled a distinguished record in his 29-year career in the U.S. Army, where he has held a series of important assignments of significant complexity and diversity in logistics and support services," said Martinez. "The capstone of his brilliant career was his successful command of all logistical support for Operation Desert Storm. We are fortunate to have 'Gus' as a member of the Sears Merchandise Group management team, where he will be responsible for all transportation, distribution and delivery services, including Sears Logistics Services, Inc. Superior logistical services are central to the effective execution of our Merchandise Group strategy, focusing equally on improved customer service and lower costs," said Martinez.
Pagonis currently is based in Kaiserslautern, West Germany, where he has command of all logistical support for the NATO forces in Europe.
Pagonis has served in every logistics command position, from platoon leader through company, brigade, division support, and theater army commands.
