Explorer Scouts (shortened to Explorers), a section of the Scout Association in the United Kingdom for 14 to 18 year olds, was introduced in 2003 from the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. station. Searchers will look for their quarry on the ground, from the air and by horseback. They will study tracking skills, search management, probabilities of detection and protecting evidence and clues. Sheriff's officials warned residents in advance Friday not to be concerned if they see what appears to be a search. In the past, escapes from the Pitchess jail complex near Castaic have caused worry in the area, prompting a community warning system which includes sirens that sound when an inmate is missing. Aiding in the exercise will be Survival Evasion Rescue Escape program instructors from Edwards Air Force Base Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway. who will act as escaped inmates. Tricks they typically employ in such exercises include changing their shoes and clothing to throw off their trackers. The training program will begin at 6:30 a.m. and conclude about 1:30 p.m. Searchers and ``fugitives'' will be equipped with emergency radios and with food and water in case somebody actually becomes lost. For their protection, searchers also will travel in pairs. |
